Confidence

Self-confidence – an important characteristic of a successful beauty pageant

When it comes to entering, competing in, and ultimately winning beauty pageants, one piece of advice trumps all others is self-confidence. Self-confidence is the most important quality you must possess if you want to be successful in beauty pageants.

Self-confidence is not found in the skillful application of makeup, a night cream that promises to give a smooth and clear complexion, or in the rigorous exercise faithfully done. Although makeup, proper skin care, dedication to hard work, and exercise are vital to the success of your career, if you lack self-confidence and appear nervous during competition, you will discover that success is still out of your reach.

One of the most important steps to ensuring your self-confidence is to smile. Smiling is the key to letting the judges and the audience know you are in your element. Looking directly at the judges while smiling will show an air of self-confidence and poise. Never forget to smile when you are competing.

If you love competition, but find that you are a bundle of nerves, you may want to try some relaxation techniques such as deep breathing. Deep abdominal breathing can work wonders in relaxing you before a competition. First of all, take a deep breath while expanding the lower abdomen. While inhaling, it is important to stretch your stomach. Let the air flow from your belly into your lungs. Breathe in slowly, expanding your abdomen, for a count of eight. Once you reach the count of eight, hold your breath for the count of four. Now, exhale slowly while counting to eight. Let the breath flow through your nose under control, while feeling your lungs contract, then let your belly contract slowly. A series of three deep breaths before a competition can do wonders in reducing your nerves.

There is no better time to show the judges as well as the audience your highly developed level of self-confidence than during the interview. Public speaking is an important skill to master and once you get comfortable in this area, you will have made tremendous progress in your ceremony skills. Public speaking is not only vital to winning beauty pageants, but it is a skill that will help you in many areas throughout your life. Pronouncing each word correctly is important and shows that you have wit and charm.

Some of the important things to keep in mind when speaking during an interview, is to speak with confidence and self-confidence. Your tone of voice will also say a lot about your level of self-confidence. It’s a good idea to practice speaking in front of a mirror. Also, use your friends and family members as substitute judges and practice talking to them. Reading aloud and answering practice interview questions is a great way to boost your confidence and help prepare you for the actual interview portion of the competition. With a great smile, self-confidence, a clear speaking voice, and a lot of self-confidence, you will find that you will have a great experience with your party.
